MOTORISTS are being advised to avoid the northbound carriageway of the A38 near Burton after a serious crash this morning.

The carriageway has been closed for more than three hours and traffic is now backing up as far as Willington, while debris is cleared up and the vehicles are recovered.

One man driving a Rover 420 has been taken to Queen’s Medical Centre, in Nottingham, with severe but not life-threatening head injuries, following the crash which also involved an 18-wheeler lorry and a Toyota Hilux.

The crash happened between the A516 junction near Mickleover and the island at Findern, at 11.10am.
