HOME-START East Staffordshire is looking for volunteers to lend a friendly ear to families in need.

The existing volunteers, who have parenting experience, help families with all sorts of problems, from the everyday to the overwhelming.

Volunteers could be playing or reading with the children to give the mother a break, helping the family to get out and about to a group or the library, assist with attending health appointments or provide a listening ear and words of comfort and understanding.

As a volunteer there is an eight session training course beginning on January 30 in the evening and then spare just two hours a week to provide emotional and practical support to a family. The course prepares people for the volunteering role and will cover non-judgemental listening skills, values and attitudes, confidentiality and boundaries, depression, domestic violence and child protection

Further information is available by phoning 01283 566684.
