A COUNCIL has said that delays over introducing cuts are part of the reason it is on course for a £4.6 million overspend.
Staffordshire County Council said a 'flexible approach' towards making savings was likely to see it spend £2.25 million more than expected after the first quarter of the year.
This includes hold-ups in pulling out of the county's youth centres.
The authority's decision to give early years providers additional notice in ending contracts also looks as if it could prove to be costly.
A report said: "We are focused on delivering outcomes within tight financial constraints and therefore we will continue to ensure our resources are managed carefully and invested wisely."
