DERBY County made a stirring second-half comeback at Championship high-flyers Watford on Saturday, but it was all for nought as they succumbed to a defeat that leaves them with only one victory from their last eight league games.
However the Rams performed well after going behind to goals from Matej Vydra – the Czech Republic striker’s 20th goal of the season – and Joel Ekstrand, and battled back to within a goal through a Jamie Ward penalty.
And in the final 15 minutes of the match, Nigel Clough’s men threw everything at their hosts and were unlucky not to snatch an equaliser.
In the end though, they paid the price for failing to control the majority of the match they way they have done in most games this season.
To be fair to Derby, they were up against a Hornets side with a host of technically-gifted players borrowed from Italy and Spain, and at times they seemed intimidated by this to the extent that their own passing game faltered.
