STRETTON Eagles manager Simon Watson has called on his side to build on last week’s victory over Hampton, although he will be leaving the reins in the hands of coach Tom Marriott on Saturday.

The Eagles travel to Shirley Town, kick-off 3pm, buoyed by a 3-1 victory that moved them back into contention at the top of the Midland Combination Division One.

However, they will be without Watson, who will be attending the wedding of assistant manager Tim Birkin.

The Eagles boss said: “The victory last weekend was crucial to this season’s aspirations.

“We now need to go on a little run and put some pressure on the clubs around us.

“Over the years we have struggled against sides like Hampton, so the result was very pleasing indeed.”

Phil Wheildon, who was on target in last weekend’s victory, will be missing on Saturday as he attends the same wedding, but Dave Kirkland, Alex Britton and Craig Swinfield will be back into contention.
