A PARTNERSHIP designed to offer support to young people in Burton has appointed a new project co-ordinator.

Wayne Chadfield will lead Respect Burton, a three-year initiative set up by the Burton Albion Community Trust and Burton Youth For Christ. Funded by the Burton Breweries Charitable Trust, the partnership will also be supported by East Staffordshire Police.

The initiative will be rolled out in schools across Burton in September and will focus on two areas – Our Space and Our Time. The Our Space element will deliver school programmes for nine and 10-year-olds in the local community.

The Our Time strand will be focused on providing mentoring and initiatives to re-engage teenagers between the ages of 11 and 14 in both Burton and the surrounding areas.

Commenting on his new role, Wayne said he was looking forward to leading the project and working with partners to continue to develop and grow the work already taking place under the partnership

He said: "This innovative and exciting programme is a fantastic opportunity to highlight key issues locally, but also work with young people to create a positive outlook for Burton and surrounding areas."
