WEST Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) is one of the first emergency services in the region to be awarded accreditation to an 'excellence' programme.
The trust which runs the service was awarded 'van excellence' by the Freight Transport Association for its high standard of operation.
WMAS joins just 75 other accredited operators in the UK out of 14,000 members, and is one of just three ambulance services to meet the standard.
Accreditation is assessed on a variety of areas including maintenance programmes, pre-departure checks and high levels of driver training.
Trust chief executive Anthony Marsh said: "This award is the culmination of 18 months of hard work. Clearly, our top priority is to ensure the highest standards of patient care. If we have a fleet that meets the toughest tests, that will undoubtedly benefit patients and enhance the work life of our staff."
