Bouncers - Stoke-on-Trent Regent Theatre
BOUNCERS has to be one of the funniest plays I have ever seen — what more can I say.
Starring four well-known faces from the world of soap, the popular play is taking to the stage at Stoke’s Regent Theatre until tomorrow (Saturday, November 3) and it is one not to miss.
Eastenders stars Don Gilet (killer Lucas Johnson), Ace Bhatti (Dr Evil Yusef Khan) and Ian Reddington (Tricky Dicky) as well as Hollyoaks’ William Ilkley (Tilly’s dad Kevin Evans) play all the characters between them.
The actors each play a bouncer, a girl and a lad on night out, getting drunker as the show goes on.
When I originally heard the plot of the play I thought it could get confusing knowing which character they were playing, as there are no costume changes, but this was done beautifully and the audience knew instantly which one they were just by the look on their faces.
Seeing them play girls on a night out has to be the funniest part of the show, especially when two of the lads ‘pull’ two of the females as well as the entrance and the dance to Michael Jackson’s Thriller.
Reddington grabbing Bhatti’s bum as he does a sexy dance has to be highlight and an image I never thought I would see.
The narration throughout the show also helped to tell the story and how the night ended for the two groups.
Despite the play being 30 years old, it was brought right up to date with modern hits blasting out of the Asylum club and the men even (tried) to sing a hit by The Wanted without the story being changed from the original show.
This play really has to be one of the funniest shows I have seen with the audience laughing from the beginning to the end.
The actors deserve a special mention as they really put on an amazing performance, keeping in character throughout, going from acting intoxicated to a sober bouncer seamlessly.
I would recommend anyone wanting a good laugh to get down to Stoke before the show finishes as it really is not to be missed.
