William Allitt pupils read eight books to decide winner of Carnegie Award 2014

Youngsters at Newhall's William Allitt School have been reading intensely to help choose the winner of this year's Carnegie Medal, which is awarded annually for the best children's fiction book of the year.

The pupils from across all year groups at the school read the eight shortlisted books then gave their opinions online.

They then joined five other schools from the area at Derby High School to decide which book they felt should be the overall winner.

The book that took the medal was All The Truth That's In Me, by Julie Ber.
