PEOPLE power has prevailed after a planning committee refused permission for a wind turbine towering to almost 160ft.

Piran Renewable Investments applied to East Staffordshire Borough Council for permission to build the turbine at its property - Harts Farm, in Radmore Lane, Abbots Bromley, but met with opposition from Abbots Bromley Parish Council, and West Midland Bird Club, as well as 14 letters of objection from nine homes citing noise and health, and natural landscape.

It wanted to build a 50kW wind turbine with a 120ft (36.8m) hub height and a 159ft (48.5m) maximum height to blade tip, providing electricity to Harts Farm, with any surplus being exported to the National Grid.

The council refused permission saying the proposal would introduce ‘incongruous landscape causing visual harm outweighing the benefits associated with the generation of renewable energy’.
