Winshill body riddle sees Burton man arrested

A 51-YEAR-OLD was today set to be quizzed by detectives following the 'unexplained' death of a woman at a house in Burton.

Staffordshire Police said a major investigation was under way after the woman, described as being in her 50s, was found dead at a home in Greenway, Winshill, yesterday afternoon.

A man was arrested at the scene in connection with the incident and detectives were due to resume questioning him today.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "At approximately 1.10pm yesterday we were called to an address in Greenway, Winshill, by colleagues from the ambulance service after a woman's body was discovered at the property.

"We are treating the death as unexplained.

"The woman has yet to be formally identified.

"A Home Office post-mortem examination will take place in due course.

"A 51-year-old man has been arrested in connection with the incident and was taken into custody."

An eyewitness, who asked not to be named, said: "We were having lunch around about 1pm, when the first responder vehicle arrived.

"It was then followed by several police cars and specialist forensics officers in vans.

"There were about eight detectives at one point.

"I don't know the name of the woman that lived there – I'd say she was in her 50s but it was hard to tell."

A spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed to the Mail that they had been called to the incident.

He said: "We headed to the property at around 1pm following a call that a women was suffering from a medical emergency.

"Crews attended the scene but the women involved was pronounced dead at the scene."
