BURTON’S MP Andrew Griffiths has promised to do everything in his power to limit the impact of potential job losses at Burton and South Derbyshire College.
The Tory politician said it was important not to ‘scaremonger of frighten people’ after Union bosses at Unison predicted that up to 100 members of staff could be made redundant.
Staff across 13 departments at the college’s campuses in Burton and Swadlincote had been told their roles were at risk following a cut in funding of more than £2 million from the Government.
The college has yet to confirm how many jobs could be lost, with a consultation currently ongoing.
Mr Griffiths said: “This is obviously a difficult and worrying time for staff at the college, and it is important not to scaremonger or frighten people about the implication of this process.
“I am in contact with the principal Dawn Ward to see what can be done to limit the impact.
“I know everybody is working incredibly hard to get the best outcome for the college, the students, and the staff.”
