BURTON Albion’s best-ever run in the FA Youth Cup ended in a 6-1 fourth round defeat against Leeds United at Elland Road on Wednesday evening.
Chris Dawson scored twice inside the opening 10 minutes to put Leeds in firm command.
Dawson opened the scoring inside four minutes when his shot squirmed under the body of Burton keeper Alex Horton.
It was 2-0 moments later when Dawson received the ball on the edge of the box and unleashed a right-foot strike which Horton could do nothing about.
Skipper Alex Mowatt extended the home team’s half-time lead from the penalty spot.
Albion had a chance when Leandro Browne latched on to a long ball forward only to be denied by the quick-thinking Eric Grimes.
The Leeds keeper was beaten moments later, though, when Ben Cowdrill cashed in on some sloppy defending to pull a goal back.
The visitors did not give it up the fight in the second half and Marcus Harness sent a shot from distance just wide of the upright.
Dawson completed his hat-trick from the spot before Afolabi Coker and Eoghan Stokes added further goals.
