CHILDREN from seven primary schools across East Staffordshire enjoyed a range of sporting activities as part of an indoor athletics festival.

More than 80 pupils from Years Three and Four took part in the events which included an obstacle course, a vertical high jump and running and throwing competitions.

The overall winners were Yoxall St Peters, with other schools such as Needwood Primary and All Saints Alrewas also competing.

Hosted by John Taylor High School, in Dunstall Road, Barton under Needwood, this was the first festival to be organised by the school’s Year Ten Sporting Young Ambassadors.

Julie Berry, sports co-ordinator for the high school, said: “It was an exciting event and fun was had by all. The Young Leaders gained a lot of experience and organised everything from the events themselves to health and safety.”

James Twynham, assistant principal at the school, added: “The values of the school games, self belief, determination, respect, teamwork, honesty and passion were very evident on the night.”

The success of the festival means more games will be held at John Taylor.
