ZANDER Diamond says it was an “easy decision” to agree a three-year contract with Northampton Town, which will start after he is released by Burton Albion in June.
The 28-year-old helped the Cobblers avoid relegation in 14 appearances on loan from the Brewers, but claims that he would have stayed even if the club had dropped out of the Football League this season.
The centre-half said: “The decision was made before the season was finished.
“The gaffer has shown faith in me by bringing me in on a long-term deal and hopefully the form we ended on, we can kick that on in the beginning of next season.
“It was such an easy decision to make.”
Diamond signed for Burton in 2012, and was a regular at the heart of the Brewers defence last season.
However, the form of Ian Sharps and Shane Cansdell-Sherriff saw the ex-Aberdeen stopper fall down the pecking order, and he joined Northampton on loan in February.
