Bazaar way of raising cash

A STORE in Burton which is celebrating its 125th year has held a ‘penny bazaar’ to raise approximately £500 for St Giles Hospice.

News - Alison Bennett and Kirsty Frost.For one day only, on Friday, Marks and Spencer, in Coopers Square, held the bazaar to both celebrate how the famous store first began – as a penny shop – and to add to its current £8,000 fund for its chosen charity.

Shoppers were able to choose five items from the bazaar in exchange for a donation.

Food section manager Helen Chittim said: “It went really well and was very smoothly run.

“Customers were able to taste some of our produce and there was a definite buzz.

“People seemed happy to queue for the charity.”
