Swans suffer first defeat

JUNIOR FOOTBALL

STAPENHILL Swans Blue suffered their first defeat of the season this week in BRIAN MOLE UNDER-12 DIVISION ONE, when they narrowly lost out 3-2 to Lichfield Diamonds.

With all the goals coming in the first half, Bailey Heanan and Matt Topham put Diamonds 2-0 up before Harry Bourne replied for Swans.

Kieran Rowley then restored Diamondsʼ two-goal advantage, with Swansʼ Ryan Nesbitt scoring again to keep the pressure on until the final whistle.

Swans still remain in joint second place, but now find themselves six points behind leaders Gresley Juniors, who turned a 3-0 half-time lead over Newhall Cougars into a final 5-0 result.

A Tom Hammerton double and a goal from Ashley Green were added to by Edward Worthʼs second half brace.

A Harry Bryan hat-trick, backed up by two goals from Owen Davey, accounted for Repton Casualsʼ 5- 4 success against Heather Juniors, a result which moved Casuals three places up the table.

Heatherʼs goals came via the quartet of Jamie Kendrick, Jack Lee, Henry Legg and Ben Smith.

Ashby Ivanhoe are now joint second in the division, their 4-0 home win over Tutbury Tigers achieved through goals for Edward Adams(2), Brandon Edwards and Luke Humphries.

Unbeaten Winshill Gold retained their seven point lead at the head of DNS BUILDING SERVICES U12 DIVISION TWO after they hit opponents Stapenhill Swans Red for six without reply, goals from Jack Bryant (4), Sheldon NʼDoli and Tunde Odunowo doing the damage.

Despite two goals from Jamie Stevens, Willington Blue were unable to halt the onslaught from Stretton Swifts Blue, who scored seven, thus ensuring Swifts remain in second place.

The 10 players of Uttoxeter Juniors visited Whittington Wolves and came away with a share of the points as they held out for a 2-2 draw, a Liam Brown double being the reply to Wolvesʼ goals from Paul Brewster and Dominic Geobey.

Also sharing the points with a 2-2 scoreline were Newhall Lions and Anglesey Swifts, Stephen Morganʼs first half double for Swifts answered by goals from Lionsʼ Jack McKay and Liam Stone.

A high scoring match between Rocester and Midway saw the latter move up a place by virtue of an 8-5 victory, their goals being scored by Brandon Birch(2), Stephen Miller(2), Joseph Clarke, Ryan Evans and Matthew Wells. Rocesterʼs reply came via doubles for Kane Falconer and Luke Selway.

Mackworth St Francis earned their first point of the season in HANDPRINT U12 DIVISION THREE, with a 2-2 draw at Winshill Green, Louis Page and Buddy Thake scoring for the Derby outfit in reply to Winshillʼs Morgan Hall and Liam Machin.

Woodville Rangers consolidated second spot with an emphatic 8-2 victory over Marlborough Rovers 2000, their three scorers being Kieron Hicklin (4), Jack Gallagher (2) and Kristopher Thorpe (2). Rovers replied though Jack Kilby and Brandon Webster.

High-flying Stretton Eagles were brought down to earth as they suffered a 3-1 home defeat at the hands of Gresley White, whose trio of Sam Insley, Owen Judd and Karl Garner outscored Eaglesʼ Liam Crisp.

The only DNS BUILDING SERVICES UNDER-12 KO CUP match this week was decided in favour of first division outfit Marlborough Rovers, who came out on top of an 11-goal thriller against Division Three leaders Doveridge by a 7-4 margin.

There were doubles for the Marlborough trio of Jordan Emmerson, Jack Hoult and Aaron Hunter, backed up by one goal for Luke Norman, while the Doveridge goals came from Ryan Lander, Joe Parker, Jack Stokes and Axel Kalling-Smith.

CHASETOWN Under-13s are looking to strengthen their squad to continue their impressive start to their life in the Burton Junior Football League.

Having made the decision to join the BJFL this season in Division One, they have made a confident start, winning all but one of their games so far, which was the very first game of the season in September.

Manager Martin Lawley said: "The players are really enjoying the challenge of playing teams they haven't played before and have needed to play some excellent football to maintain this unbeaten run."

Anyone interested in joining Chasetown should call Martin on 07803 284186 for further details.
