EAGER firms have already put their bids in to win a prestigious Burton Mail Business Award.

The awards are now in their fifth year and businesses have until September 12 to enter in the 11 categories.

Awards director Dave Bryon is pleased with the response so far but believes there are still plenty of companies of all sizes in East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire who are potentially missing out on a chance to shout about their successes.

He says: "Naturally we have had a lot of interest in the awards – even though we know a lot of companies tend to leave it to the last couple of weeks to get their entries in because of things like summer holidays.

"However, we do urge companies to make sure they meet the deadline. It's a great opportunity for all companies and it's free to enter. It's a chance to showcase the success of your company over the last year or so and several categories also give companies the chance to reward the employees who have done an excellent job over the last 12 months.

"We always hear from companies after the awards evening saying they wish they had entered. So we do urge all companies and organisations to look at doing so over the next month. It has the bonus of bringing significant benefits such as media exposure and the chance to showcase your company to major sponsors involved in the awards much as JCB, Molson Coors, Barclays and East Staffordshire Borough and South Derbyshire District Council."

Burton Mail editor Kevin Booth says: "The awards have become a major highlight on the annual business calendar and we know they have been a major boost not only to the winners and all their staff but to those nominated as well.

"The gala awards evening is a special night and I would urge companies in all sectors to enter and not to miss out on this great opportunity."

There are 11 awards to be won in the Burton Mail Business Awards including the prestigious Business of the Year.

The categories are: Employer of the Year; Employee of the Year; Young Employee of the Year; Most Promising New Start-Up; Small Business of the Year (11-20 Employees); Small Business of the Year (1-10 Employees); Best Customer Service; The Environment Award; Best Use of Technology or Innovation; Retailer of the Year.

The closing date for entries is September 12.

The gala awards ceremony takes place on Thursday, October 23, and will be held at Burton Albion's Pirelli Stadium.
