A PLASTIC ice skating rink which cost Burton taxpayers £41,000 to buy is now officially up for sale.
It comes after the Mail revealed that the ice rink, which East Staffordshire Borough Council’s previous Tory-led party bought two years ago to reinvigorate the market place, was to be sold after the authority’s Labour party took charge.
At the time, the council’s new leader, Julian Mott, branded the rink as an ‘embarrassing blunder’, after a Freedom of Information (FOi) revealed it had run at a loss for the second year running. It made a deficit of more than £1,000 in 2012/13 and £3,000 loss last year, after opening for just 19 days.
Councillor Mott said he would sell the rink as ‘one ice rink, barely used.’
A spokesman for the council said: “East Staffordshire Borough council is seeking expressions of interest from individuals, companies and organisations who would be interested in purchasing the rink.
“The method of sale is by sealed bids. Interested parties should please contact 01283 508000 or email firstname.lastname@example.org
“The closing date for bids is Friday, July 4.”
