Two men to stand trial after ‘racial assault’ in Burton

TWO men are to stand trial after denying launching into a racially aggravated assault.

Kamran Nazir, 21, of Uxbridge Street, and Shamas Ali, 19, of Blackpool Street, both Burton, are alleged to have entered into a fracas with Ashley Lester, in Burton town centre, on May 24.

They attended Burton Magistrates’ Court yesterday to deny the offences.

Nazir is accused of Using threatening, abusive or insulting words or behaviour, and that that offence was racially aggravated.

Ali is accused of assaulting the same man.

Nazir has opted for his case to be heard at Stafford Crown Court and will appeal there on July 3.

He answers conditional bail not to enter Burton town centre as defined on a map provided to him, including the The Octagon shopping centre, and not to contact Ashley Lester and two other witnesses.

Ali will return to magistrates’ court on September 23 to stand trial.
