A lane is closed on the M1 northbound at East Midlands Airport due to a broken down vehicle.

There is heavy traffic as the lane has been closed on the entry slip road.

One lane of M42 closed at Burton

One lane has been closed at junction 11 of the M42 at Burton, as a vehicle has had to have a tyre changed.

The incident has led to heavy traffic building up on the carriageway.

A Burton gym’s wet side facilities have been closed this week due to health and safety issue. The Burton Mail was informed that Bannatyne Health Club, which is situated at Centrum 100, has closed down its wet area facilities due to health and safety reasons, but that gym users did not know what the health and safety reasons were.

The former president of what was the largest mining union in South Derbyshire says he finally feels vindicated 30 years on from the Miners’ Strike after claims in a new report that members of a break-away union were working with Tory government at the time.

The national Miners’ Strike in 1984 was one of the bitterest industrial disputes in British history and saw thousands of miners across the country go on strike as the Tory Government of the day led by Prime Minister Margaret Thatcher attempted to close many pits and privatise what was left of the industry.

Motorist crashed into a pedestrian as he crossed a Burton street

A pedestrian was left with a serious head injury after he was hit by a car in Burton town centre.

Motorist Kevin Wood, of Fairway, Branston, failed to see two pedestrians crossing the road in George Street towards Guild Street and hit them, causing one of them to suffer a head injury, a court has heard.

The 69-year-old has now admitted driving without due care and attention.

Burton's Allure nightclub loses battle to extend its opening times for A-level celebration event

Teens hoping to celebrate their A-levels will have to leave a popular Burton nightclub by 4am, after plans to extend its opening hours were refused over claims of disorder.

The director of Allure nightclub, in Station Street, will be holding an A-levels celebration night on August 17 through to the early morning of August 18, and had hoped to extend its opening hours to 6am, but Staffordshire Police objected to the plans.

Major work to improve a Burton bridge is set to begin later this month and will see the closure of one of the town’s busiest gateways for three months.

St Peter’s Bridge, in Stapenhill, hit the headlines in January when it was revealed that “life-expired” bearings on the bridge were at risk and the bridge could have a weight limit introduced if they continue to deteriorate.
