Police close off road in Overseal

Police have closed off Moira Road in Overseal following an incident earlier this evening.

An eyewitness told the Burton Mail that the closure of the road was causing traffic problems and was believed to be caused by a road traffic accident. Police and ambulances were at the scene dealing with the incident.

Crash on Swarkestone Bridge causing long delays this evening

A crash on Swarkestone Bridge is causing long delays for drivers this evening.

The incident happened at 4pm and involved three cars.

A police spokeswoman said it was likely to cause traffic problems for “some time” as all three vehicles were not driveable.

She said that meant they would all need to be picked up by a recovery vehicle.

The crash, she said, had “done some minor damage to the bridge’s brickwork”.

She said the cars involved were a Skoda Octavia, Ford Scorpio, and a Renault Clio.

Travellers set up camp in Branston

Travellers have set up camp on the car park of a business in Branston. An eyewitness told the Burton Mail that there are a number of caravans pitched up on Second Avenue and police officers appear to have sealed off the entrance. The eyewitness also reported seeing sniffer dogs on the scene.

Heavy traffic in Horninglow Road

Drivers are being warned to expect delays due to heavy traffic on the A511 Horninglow Road. Temporary traffic lights are causing traffic to build up at Shakespeare Road in the roadworks area.

All lanes have since reopened.

Cars involved in the incident were moved to the hard shoulder a few minutes ago.

Multi-vehicle accident on M1

There has been a multi-vehicle accident on the M1 Northbought between junction 25 at Brian Clough Way and junction 26 A610 for Nottingham and Eastwood.

Three lanes are closed and there is heavy traffic.

All traffic is being temporarily held while the scene is being attended.

Lanes one, two and three (of four) are closed.

Police chase through Burton is aborted

A police chase through Burton had to be aborted over safety concerns.

A Nissan Almera failed to stop for police and sped off along Derby Road towards the Pirelli Stadium just after 5.20pm on Monday, August 21.

A short pursuit followed and at one point the Almera was driven at 75mph in a 30mph area.

The pursuit was aborted because the safety of police officers, the occupants of the car and the general public was compromised.

An air ambulance landed in a road near Burton last night after a person had fallen down a flight of stairs in their home.

Staff from Midland Air Ambulance were scrambled from their base in Tatenhill to assist with a patient who had fallen down.

Man dies after fatal police chase in Derby

A man has died following a police chase in Derby.

The A6 London Road in Alvaston had been closed in both directions while the scene was investigated.

Police said they were following a car when it hit a central reservation barrier, killing a passenger. The driver is in hospital.

After a foggy start this morning it will be a fine, warm and fairly humid day with plenty of sunny spells.

We may see a few showers develop through the afternoon, but most will remain dry and winds will be light.

An accident on the M1 southbound is causing issues for motorists this morning.

One lane is closed and there is heavy traffic due to a broken down car at junction 29 A617 and A6175 for Chesterfield and Mansfield.
