Burton paedophile escapes immediate jail sentence

A 44-year-old man involved in sexual grooming on the internet was exposed by a vigilante group which confronted him on the doorstep of his Winshill home, a court has heard.

Kevin Collins was trapped by members of the so-called Keeping Kids Safe group who filmed him and posted the footage on social media. The vigilante group set up pseudo online profiles of young girls, and Collins believed he was communicating with girls who were 11 or 12 years old.

Overturned car leads to M1 closure in Derbyshire

One lane of the M1 northbound has been closed at junction 28 for the Alfreton and Mansfield after a car has overturned.

Traffic information site, Inrix, states that traffic is queuing down the carriageway.

Burton and South Derbyshire bin men could start wearing body cameras to tackle residents' fears they aren't doing job properly

Council bosses in Burton and Swadlincote have said although they are not currently considering getting their binmen to wear body cameras, it is not something they would rule out.

Some councils, which are responsible for emptying household rubbish bins elsewhere in the Britain, have considered the idea of giving bin works body cameras. They feel the cameras would help with settling disputes, such as when bins have the wrong waste in them.

Man escapes immediate jail sentence after being caught trying to get into Burton nightclub with a knife

Edgar Erki, 25, of South Uxbridge Street, Burton, indicated a plea of guilty to having an offensive weapon in a public place, namely a double bladed metal knife, in New Street, Burton, on July 22. He has been made the subject of an eight week prison sentence suspended for 12 months because he tried to enter a nightclub with a knife in his pocket while under the influence of alcohol.

Two gyms could be opening up in Swadlincote town centre

Keep-fit fans are set for a major boost in South Derbyshire with two new gym projects breathing life into Swadlincote town centre.

US-based Snap Fitness is hoping to open a 24-hour gym in the former Brantanos shoe shop unit, in the Pipeworks, off Coppice Side, and plans are also in the pipeline for another gym at Sharpe’s Industrial Estate, in Alexandra Road.

Woman threatened to kill another at Foston Hall prison

A woman threatened to kill another woman in prison, Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court heard. She has been jailed for eight weeks concurrent to her current seven year sentence and was ordered to pay £115 victim surcharge.

School pupils as young as 11 have been left fearing for their own safety as reckless drivers attempt to beat traffic chaos in the wake of the St Peter’s Bridge closure, it is claimed.

John Taylor High School students who take the bus from Walton have had several near-misses over the last few weeks as impatient motorists mount the pavement to overtake other drivers, according to parents.
