A babygro that sparked fury amongst angry mums online has caused a stir with Burton Mail readers.

The controversial baby garment featured the slogan, “All mummy wanted was a back rub” on the front in large lettering.

The sleep suit was first spotted by Mumsnet user jarhead123, who shared a snap of the photo, asking: “Am I being unreasonable for thinking this babygro is awful?”

Other mothers caught on to outrage about the babygro, claiming: “If ‘Mummy’ did not want sex, then she was raped? This trivialises rape, I feel, and that is never okay. How are these things allowed to exist?”

Another mother said: “That’s really gross. And also so disturbing at the same time. Might as well put the baby in something saying ‘I’m the by-product of rape’.”

A spokesman for B&M said: "We have asked our supplier to withdraw this item from the range and will no longer be selling this product.

"We have also issued an instruction to store colleagues to remove any remaining products from store stocks."

Burton Mail readers have taken to Facebook to share their thoughts on the baby garment.

Dan Bass said: “Grow up; it’s light hearted. Far too many tedious, mardy goons in this country. Stop crying about a few words that were never intended to harm anybody. There are far worse problems in the world.”

Seeing the funny side, Kira Machin said: “I found the quote funny. Anybody to read that deep into a few words on a babygro while walking around B&M are the ones that need psychiatric help.”

Amy Hill said: “It’s a joke! Do people have so little to do that they have time to read too much into things and complain? Pathetic!!”

Jean Heathcote agreed with the other commenters: “Are we really so humourless these days? Get over it!”

“Some people are pathetic. Everything that’s going on in the world and people are more concerned about a light-hearted joke; get a life.”
