A 13-year-old boy was found to be carrying a knife in a South Derbyshire park last night, police have revealed.

Derbyshire Police said its officers were called out at 6.50pm. They were called after receiving reports that children using the park had been threatened by a boy with a knife in Chestnut Avenue, Midway.

Officers were dispatched to the scene scene where they found the youngster in "possession of a bladed article". He was spoken to, said a spokesman.

After investigating the matter, officers decided the best way to resolve the incident was through the restorative justice system. Restorative justice focuses on the rehabilitation of offenders through reconciliation with victims and the community at large after less serious offences have been commited.

In this case officers spoke with the youth’s parent and reached an agreement without the need for the offence to go further, said a spokesman.
