Burton Albion Football Club are in the market for a brand new star to light up the Pirelli Stadium for the new Championship season.

And the successful applicant will have to rub shoulders with famous faces like Manchester United’s Fred the Red and Chirpy the Cockerel from Tottenham Hotspur to name but a few.

Yes, Burton Albion are looking for a brand new Bettie Brewer mascot to don the famous costume and help keep the Brewers faithful firmly supporting Nigel Clough’s men. Bettie, of course, will work along side fellow club mascot Billy Brewer.

If you fancy your chances as Bettie, the club is looking for someone over the age of 18 and be friendly and happy to interact with the thousands of Brewers fans.

The successful new Bettie will need to be available for all of, or most of the home league games at the Pirelli Stadium starting on Saturday, August 5, at the match against former Premier league side, Cardiff City.

And if you fancy the job, you will have to make sure you don’t have any Boxing Day plans, as Bettie will have to pull on her boots for the clash with Leeds United and the festive spirit flows around the Pirelli.

And the new Bettie difinitely needs to be pumped up and ready for the big derby game at Derby County on Saturday, April 14.

A club spokesman said: “We are seeking one enthusiastic Brewers fan to dress-up as the ever popular Bettie Brewer on match days.

“For this role you must be able to interact in a friendly way with the club’s fans.”

You will be needed to be free for home games, on Saturday’s between 1pm and 5pm and during midweek fixtures, between 6.15pm and 9.45pm.

This is a voluntary role and relies on someone who is truly passionate about the Brewers and want to help work the crowd.

A DBS check will be made on the successful applicant to make sure they are appropriate to be working around children.

If you like the sound of joining Billy Brewer and the team at the Pirelli Stadium next season, email your interest to Burton Albion Community Trust at reece.brown@burtonalbionct.org .

But what do mascots get up to outside of the football?

Billy Brewer

Billy is to Bettie what Clyde was to Bonnie – partners in crime - or in this case partners on the touchline.

The pair are seen meeting and having fun with fans at the Pirelli Stadium on a weekly basis, but what if Billy went solo?

He did this when Bettie was indisposed when he popped up to join the celebrations of die-hard Burton Albion supporter, Rich Seagrave at his wedding to partner, Rebecca, in Derbyshire.

The couple got hitched on Saturday, July 15, at a Brewers-themed wedding complete with a yellow and black suit for the groom.

Billy also swapped his football boots for a set of golf clubs last summer at Branston Golf and Country Club.

He joined in the fun when door manufacturing company JD Kind held a charity golf day fund-raiser at the golf club in Staffordshire.

Billy travelled all the way to Branston to take part and helped all the players warm up before they teed off - old habits die hard.

Rammy the Ram

Heading across to Derby County, resident Ram mascot, Rammy is known for charging around Pride Park and causing mischief with the crowd.

But sometimes he may fancy a bit of a quieter afternoon.

It was probably a bad choice on his part then to visit Holy Trinity Primary School for their summer fair last year then.

The Burton school were holding their annual sunny celebrations when the ram crashed the party riding in on a bike littered with balloons.
