Motorists traveling through Burton are being warned about the temporary closure of a popular car park.

The car park at Burton Library, in High Street, has been closed due to resurfacing work taking place today, Thursday, September 14.

The area has been closed for "essential maintenance work" from 6am this morning, ewith a spokesman for East Staffordshire Borough Council saying it would reopen at some point this afternoon.

A sign at the car park read: "Due to essential maintenance works, the access to the library car park from the Meadowside Drive will be closed from 06:00 on Thursday 14 September 2017.

"You will still be able to enter/exit the library car park from the library drive entrance.

"We apologise for any inconvenience this may cause."

The closure is predicted add to delays due to the ongoing work on St Peter's Bridge, which is due to finish at the end of November. Some drivers stuck in High Street tailgates have been using the car park, which leads from the library to Meadowside Drive, as a short cut to get out further along High Street, By doing this they have been cutting out the traffic lights near The Crossing pub.
