Burton MP, Andrew Griffiths is looking for nominations for a national competition that is looking to find the best chefs in the country.

The parliamentary pub chef and young pub chef of the year awards are being ran again this year, after first being set up by Mr Griffiths in 2016.

The awards were set up to celebrate the high standard of food available across the country and to recognise the chefs behind the grub, and Mr Griffiths set them up while he was the chairman of the All-Party Parliamentary beer group.

Last year’s winners were Milan Hukal, from Grundisburgh in Suffolk and Robert Yuill, from Dundee in the pub chef and young pub chef competitions respectively.

Andrew Griffiths now wants people to put forward their choice of top chefs and young chefs in both Burton and Uttoxeter. Nominations need to be made by Friday, September 29.

The final winners will be invited to the House of Commons in early 2018 to receive their award and a cash prize of £500.

Mr Griffiths has called for people from across Burton and South Derbyshire to get in touch with him personally and nominate chefs who deserve some recognition for their work.

He said: “We have some top pubs in Burton and Uttoxeter serving truly excellent food, and I want to see the chefs recognised for the work they put in to deliver great quality to their customers.

“So if you are a pub and you want to nominate your chef, or you have a young chef who deserves recognition, or you are a customer who has been served some brilliant food and you want to thank the chef, please send me your nomination.

“Pubs in the United Kingdom now serve almost one billion meals each year, and these awards are a great chance to celebrate the very best of the pub chefs cooking up our food.”

All nominations should be sent to Andrew.griffiths.mp@parliament.uk by Friday, September 29.
