Pupils from Coton-in-the-Elms Primary School are gearing up for their first performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.

Children in year’s three to six have been rehearsing since February in the run-up to the show, which is performing tonight, Monday, July 3 and tomorrow, Tuesday, July 4 at The Brewhouse Arts Centre, in Burton.

For the last 12 months, teachers at the primary school have incorporated the classic tale of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat throughout their lessons to allow the children to learn more about the story. This included art, where the pupils were able to create props for the play to allow them to be involved with every aspect of bringing the production to life.

Jo Cresswell, the school’s business officer, said: “It’s all about creating experiences for the children. Not many children would even go to a theatre, never mind perform in one. The children are so excited. I dropped them off today and the chitter chatter between them is amazing.”

The first performance of Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat will take place tonight and tomorrow, from 7pm until 9.15pm at the Union Street venue. Entry is free but donations to the school are accepted.
