A cyclist has been taken to hospital by air ambulance after being involved in a collision with a car on a busy Burton road, earlier this afternoon.

The accident, which took place at the A5121 in Union Street, caused major traffic problems on the junction by Magnet Kitchens showroom. It happened at 2.15pm, today, Friday, September 8.

There is considerable damage to the car, a white Audi. The male cyclist received treatment at the scene before being airlifted from the scene to hospital by the Derbyshire, Leicestershire and Rutland Air Ambulance. The air ambulance landed nearby at Burton Rugby Club.

Officers from Staffordshire Police are still at the scene and an ambulance was also in attendance. A land ambulance and a paramedic officer were called to the scene to treat the man.

A spokesperson for West Midlands Ambulance Service said the incident is still ongoing and they had treated the cyclist at the scene. The extent of his injuries is not yet known.
