A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said after the cases: “There are four major contributing factors to road collisions where people can be killed or seriously injured. These are driving under the influence of drink or drugs, not wearing a seatbelt, breaking the speed limit, or using a phone at the wheel.

“Speed limits are there for a reason and ignoring them can put you and other road users at serious risk of a collision. The vast majority of road users stick to the rules, but there are those out there who do not obey them. Those drivers face being banned, fined, having their licence endorsed with points, or in some circumstances, sent to prison.

“These court results show that we take these offences seriously and will take action against any driver who breaks the law.”
