Former Burton Albion striker Billy Kee has been charged with an offence of grievous bodily harm following an alleged incident outside a Leicester nightclub earlier this year.

Kee, who played for the Brewers from 2011 to 2014 before he left to join Scunthorpe United, is charged alongside another footballer.

Kee, 26, who now plays for Accrington Stanley, appeared at Leicester Magistrates’ Court alongside Cardiff City forward Lee Tomlin, 28. Both footballers have been charged with inflicting grievous bodily harm without intent following the alleged incident on January 22.

They are due again before Leicester Magistrates' Court on September 18. Tomlin, who previously played for Bristol City, and Kee will continue to play for their respective teams, said their clubs.

A spokesman for Cardiff City said: "Lee will continue as part of the first team squad."

A spokesman for Accrington Stanley said: "Billy will continue to be available for selection for Accrington Stanley. The club will not comment further on this incident at this time."
