A school in Burton has received a gift of more than a thousand pounds from submariners to fund a residential trip for pupils.

Fountains Primary School, in Bitham Lane, Stretton, was presented with a cheque for £1,016.20 from the crew of HMS Victorious on Friday, June 30. The money will be used towards the cost of the annual Year 6 trip to Standon Bowers Outdoor Education Centre, in Stafford.

The team, based in Helensburgh, Glasgow, raised the money with a 24-hour bike ride, and later arrived at the school to present the cheque.

Head teacher Nicola Price said: “This donation is always gratefully received and helps subsidise the cost of this residential trip, during this time the children have a chance to explore a different environment, learning lots of new skills. Many of our pupils will not have had an opportunity to go on trips away from home and therefore for many of them this will be their first time.”

HMS Victorious has been affiliated with Burton for more than 15 years and visits the town at least once a year to donate money to the school.
