Traffic is already building in a number of hotspots in Burton and South Derbyshire as drivers seek to find alternative routes to avoid town centre gridlock, following the closure of St Peter’s Bridge, a major route for motorists.

Drivers are being warned to expect delays on many major routes this morning and to schedule extra time into their journey if possible.

The A444 St Peter's Street Northbound is very heavy with traffic between the A5189 St Peter's Bridge and Main Street and A511 Ashby Road. There is also slow traffic at the A511 Ashby Road both ways at A444 Stapenhill Road, as drivers look to find an alternative route.

While the A444 for Burton Road is backed up with slow traffic in both directions around B5004 for Woodville Road and Lullington Road.

Motorists using the A50 Eastbound to get to wherever they are headed should also be aware of a lane closure which is in operation at B5030 Ashbourne Road (Little Chef roundabout) and is causing slow traffic in the roadworks area.
