Musical maestros from the South Derbyshire Music Centre have wowed Wales - thanks to a cycling competition
Thirty members from the centre from Swadlincote, under the musical direction of Phillip King, Matt Pope and Sarah Kimber, made their first trip to Wales last weekend.
The excited group played to packed audiences and a standing ovation at St Peters church, in Swansea, on Saturday, July 8, and to crowds in Roath Park, Cardiff, who were enjoying the summer sunshine and cheering on riders taking part in Cardiff’s Velathon competition, on Sunday, July 9.
The music centre made the 180 mile trip to Swansea and Cardiff following an invitation from their former music coordinator Sue Jones who recently relocated to Swansea.
The children aged between 13 and 20 practice twice a week and are made up of pupils from schools in the local area. The band consists of several instruments and some also sing in the organisations youth choir who also performed at both events.
The group wishes to thank Sue Jones, St Peters Church and the Parks Department in Cardiff city council for helping to make their trip so memorable and one they definitely wish to repeat.
