A new bus service to help Burton and South Derbyshire students get to a college campus in Coalville, has got under way this week.

The number 9 which started running on Monday, September 11, will give students a direct connection from Burton, Newhall, Swadlincote, Woodville and Ashby, to the college.

Ticket prices start at £2 while four-week tickets are also available for £40 with passengers being asked to show their Student ID when taking advantage of the new service.

Michael Cartwright, Midland Classic operations manager, said: "Stephenson College is renowned for excellence and innovation in learning and has trained thousands of people to get the qualifications they need to progress onto their chosen career path.

"Working in partnership with the college makes travelling to the college even easier by bus for students from Burton, Swadlincote, Netherseal, Overseal, Donisthorpe, Measham and Ashby.

"We know students have limited budgets, to help student funds go further we are pleased to introduce our great range of value for money fares."

Catherine Duro, director of corporate services at Stephenson College, said: "We are delighted that Midland Classic has announced a new bus service to our Coalville campus.

"The new route will not only give current students a new, affordable method of reaching us, but we hope it will also encourage young-people from the South Derbyshire area to come and find out about what we have to offer here at Stephenson College and hopefully see them join us on a course."
