Drivers in East Staffordshire and South Derbyshire are being warned of major delays on a number of routes this evening, with temporary traffic lights, ongoing roadworks and a broken down lorry among some of the causes.

Motorists using the Pirelli Island in Burton are also being warned of delays and tailbacks, which are leading all the way back to Wetmore Road. Cones in place on the roundabout are causing havoc as one lane is blocked and another is in use around the island, which is causing disruption at all entrances and exits of the roundabout.

Drivers are being warned of delays on the A50 Westbound after a broken down lorry left one lane blocked. The incident happened near the B5030 at Ashbourne Road near to the Little Chef roundabout and is still ongoing while temporary traffic lights on the A511 for Horninglow are causing major delays in both directions and congestion to the A5121 Derby Road.

Motorists should also be aware that overnight closures are in place on a number of Burton Roads this evening, as Staffordshire County Council carries out improvement works to prepare for the full three-month closure of St Peter’s Bridge.

The highways team has announced that resurfacing work will take place over six consecutive nights at the junction of Stapenhill Road and Ashby Road junction, the Shobnall Road/Wellington Road Island, Wellington Street/Borough Road, Horninglow Street and the junction of Horninglow Street and Guild Street.

Traffic management will take place in the listed areas from 7.30pm onwards and are expected to finish at around 6am the following mornings.
