Pupils and teachers from Paulet High School, in Stapenhill, are celebrating as the school tackled the new GCSE grading system and appears to have come out on top.

Head teacher of the school Ian McArthur has addressed his pupils to tell them how proud he is of their hard work.

Mr McArthur said: "Their results are a testament to their hard work and the partnership that exists, at Paulet between teachers, students and parents. We look forward to seeing many of our students back in our sixth form college in September to start the next exciting and challenging stage of their lives. All of our students, teachers, support staff and parents deserve praise. Well done to all of them."

There were a number of notable success stories at the school, including Sophie Mansell, who received two grade 9s, a grade 7, five A*s and one grade A.

Freya Crofts got a grade 8, two grade 7s, two A*s and five grade As; David Gater received a grade 9, a grade 7, a grade 6, three A*s and three grade As; Amy Stubbs achieved GCSEs at grades 9, 8, 7, three A*s and two grade As.

Tom Sanderson did very well, receiving two grade 9s, a grade 8, four A*s and two As and Abigail White received grades 9, 8, 7, three A*s and two As.

Mr McArthur singled one student out for praise, Evelyn Kertesz, who achieves two grade 9s, a grade 8 and seven As.

He said: "Special mention should go to Evelyn Kertesz, who joined Paulet in 2015 after moving to the UK. English is her third language, behind Hungarian and Romanian and she achieved the new grade 8 in English language.

"She got a grade 9 in English literature and a grade 9 in maths – a phenomenal achievement. Evelyn is joining our sixth form college now to study maths, English literature, history and business studies with a view to studying law at University."
