Plans to build extra fencing behind a popular Horninglow park are set to get underway after residents complain of antisocial behaviour.

Members of Horninglow and Eton parish council discussed plans to build higher fencing around the back of houses in St Luke's Road, which backs onto Horninglow Community Park.

It comes after residents had complained about anti-social behaviour from children playing directly behind the houses in the St Luke's Road area.

Staffordshire County Council had already taken action by placing trees and fencing in between the park's changing rooms and the space behind the houses. However, over time the trees have become overgrown and have destroyed the fencing.

Councillors say children are now gaining access through the broken fence and using the space between the houses and the changing rooms as a den.

One resident, who is a member of neighbourhood watch, reported anti-social behaviour from young people playing behind the houses, recalling swearing and general misconduct. After confronting the children, the resident was swore at and an argument broke out.

Members of the Horninglow and Eton parish council said that they had previously planted a rose bush in the area but the flowers were unable to grow due to anti-social behaviour.

Clive Keen, chairman of Horninglow and Eton parish council, said: "There's always been a problem around that area. The park used to be popular for football matches but that stopped because of bad behaviour because it annoyed a row of houses. The resident is worried if nothing is done in five years the behaviour may get worse."

The parish council have requested a quote in costs for new fencing and await a response before they can move forward.
