Police have closed off Moira Road in Overseal following an incident earlier this evening.

An eyewitness told the Burton Mail that the closure of the road was causing traffic problems and was believed to be caused by a road traffic accident. Police and ambulances were at the scene dealing with the incident.

A spokesman for Derbyshire Police said: "The road is clearing and is expected to open shortly. It is not a serious incident."

Police are still at the scene. It is not known how many people were involved and if there are any injuries.

Meanwhile, drivers in South Derbyshire are also being warned of a crash on Swarkestone Bridge which is causing long delays for drivers this evening.

The A514 is closed in both directions between B587 and A5132 Barrow Lane. There is also congestion on A514 to Breach Lane and on B587 to Breach Lane. The incident happened at 4pm and involved three cars.

A police spokesman said it was likely to cause traffic problems for "some time" as all three vehicles were not driveable.

She said that meant they would all need to be picked up by a recovery vehicle.

The crash, she said, had "done some minor damage to the bridge's brickwork".
