Roadworks which have been causing misery across Burton and South Derbyshire are sadly set to stay for a while yet, roads bosses have revealed. So if you are heading home tonight and when you come to work next week, motorists should expect delays and allow extra time for their journeys.

Motorists have been left frustrated by the many sets of roadworks that had been causing long delays on main routes in Burton and South Derbyshire this week. Works in Midway have finished, but motorists look set to be held up in more delays as BT is completing upgrades on the A511 Burton Road, Woodville, until Monday, July 3.

Despite work due to end today, Friday, June 30, drivers are still being held up in Derby Road near the Pirelli Stadium

due to gas works which now look set to continue until Wednesday, July 5, now.

Roadworks problems on main routes

But those who had been affected by road closures on the A444 at Linton Heath will be pleased to hear the four-way traffic lights have been taken down.

However, roadworks have now moved onto Burton Road, in Overseal, where two-way traffic lights are now in place. These roadworks will then slowly travel down the A444 until August 28. Western Power Distribution is making urgent repairs to its underground cables.

Temporary traffic lights have been causing issues

It comes after drivers heading to wards Burton were caught up in delays on the A38 this morning after a van crashed into the central reservation on the A38 causing severe delays of up to an hour for commuters.

The accident happened on the southbound carriageway at Kingsway between the A52 Markeaton Island and the A5111 Kingsway Island.

There was congestion on the A38 right back to the A61. The road was partially blocked and commuters were reporting extra travel time of at least 40 minutes.
