A 'serious incident' closed New Street, in Burton town centre, today.

The incident took place between Union Street and Lichfield Street, near to the Octagon shopping centre in the town centre.

Traffic information website Inrix reports that the incident was reported to Staffordshire police at 9:44am who quickly attended the scene. The road has since re-opened.

The road was cordoned off as police carried out investigations and reopened in the last half an hour.

BBC Radio Derby report that the incident was "serious assault".

It is not yet known if there have been any injuries.
