Signs for Burton's new Next store have been put in place as the retailer prepares to open in October. Next at Home is moving into the units previously occupied by Bhs, which closed last year after plunging into administration, and the next-door Toys R Us, and is set to open to the public on Tuesday, October 24.

Dave Chadfield, centre manager at Coopers Square shopping centre previously said the new store showed not only Next's commitment to Burton but also the landlords, adding that they both see Burton as a prospering town with all the new homes being built around the area.

The shopping centre has also seen renewed interest from potential new tenants for the centre off the back of the Next upsize.

The two stores have been gutted and knocked into one as work continues to revamp the façade of all shops at the Swan Walk part of Coopers Square shopping centre.

The space will house Next, and another retailer will be sharing a part of the space, but it is not known who that will be yet.

Burton Mail readers have previously welcomed the idea of another fashion retailer, H&M, taking up the space. H&M has said it has not ruled out Burton but that it wanted to be closer to other clothes retailers like New Look, which is just inside the Station Street entrance of the shopping centre.

The new-look Next will create 60 jobs and the store will replace its current shop inside the Coopers Square shopping centre, near to Primark.

The change in venue for Next meant Toys R Us, which had been housed in the unit adjoining the former Bhs store which will now be part of Next, has left the shopping centre. However, the toy retailer has since not returned to Burton.

The opening of the new Next store comes during the controversial St Peter's Bridge closure as it undergoes a revamp. It is causing concerns among traders who believe shoppers are avoiding making the journey to Burton due to the bridge closure.
