Swadlincote and District Royal British Legion is moving its monthly branch meetings to enable more members can attend.
The club will now meet at Oakland Village, in Hall Farm Road, Swadlincote, having moved from the Belmont Services Club, in the town.

The move has also resulted in a change to its meeting dates and these will now take place on the first Wednesday of the month starting at 7.30pm.

Many of the Legion (RBL) members and prospective members live at the Oakland Village complex so the move makes sense, says a spokesman.

To mark the move, the branch will be holding an informal open evening from 7.30pm to 9pm, on Wednesday, July 5, to enable members of the public to drop in and find out about the work of the legion both nationally and in the local community.

Branch secretary and poppy appeal organiser, Glyn Jackson said: “This informal drop in evening is an ideal opportunity for people to come along and meet our members, find out about the work of the Royal British Legion generally and, more importantly, in the local community and how you can become involved. You do not have to have served in the Armed Forces to become a member. Anyone can join over the age of 12 and it is free for youngsters under the age of 18. There are also a number of opportunities to volunteer us and help out either occasionally or on a regular basis.”

In addition to finding out about the legion, the branch will also be fund-raising with a raffle and Poppy Shop stocked with lots of poppy items.
