Jyoti Shah, consultant urological surgeon at Burton’s Queen’s Hospital, has got men talking about their health by going out in to the community with her prostate screening programme.

Now she has been awarded the Chief Executive’s Award at the Burton Hospital’s NHS Foundation Trust’s PRIDE Awards for her work to encourage men to get them to get checked by going out to places like Pirelli Stadium. Here she tells shares some of her likes and dislikes.

What is your favourite film and television programme? My favourite film is Pretty Woman as it is a really feel good film. My favourite television show is NCIS as I love the character Gibbs.

What is your favourite takeaway? Pizza with a glass of wine.

Can you think of one thing that nobody knows about you? When I was younger I had an arranged marriage as I could not escape the stereotypes but I always knew I wanted to be a doctor. After a long time of being alone I found the man who is my absolute rock and my moral compass.

What is your ultimate ambition in life? To qualify as a doctor and I have and I love it. It is all I have ever wanted to do and I love going in to schools and sharing my knowledge with others.

Have you got any pet hates? Egos and lies.

What is your favourite song? I will survive by Gloria Gaynor.

Marmite; love it or hate it? I hate it.

What would you say is your worst habit? Food, I just love food.

What was your first car? It was a Nissan Micra.

If you could make up any law, what would it be? Ban rudeness and order everyone to be nice to each other.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would you go? I would go anywhere as long as my husband is with me

Who would you invite to a dinner party, dead or alive? It would be Maya Angelou who was a freedom fighter who was quite inspirational.

What would you do if you won the lottery? I would drop some working hours and set up a charity so I could do some charity work. As a family we have built a school in India and it is one of the most rewarding things. We are sending money out to the school so they can education someone to give them a future.
