A tiny kitten has been found dumped in a tied up plastic carrier bag in a Burton street. A passer-by found the frightened black and white cat, thought to be around 10 months old, after noticing the carrier bag left in Carver Road was moving.

They were so moved by the kitten's sad plight that they have now decided to keep her.

The cat had blood around her neck, thought to be as a result of her collar being too tight, and was covered in fleas, said an RSPCA spokesman.

She had a distinctive piece of orange and purple silky material tied tightly around her neck when she was found at around 9.30pm on Sunday, September 10.

RSPCA animal collection officer Catherine Strawford said: "It is so sad that someone thought it was acceptable to abandon an animal in this way. It is lucky that the cat was found as there is the chance that she might not have been.

"It looks as though she was not looked after well at all by her previous owner. We are keen to find out who abandoned this poor cat in such a senseless way. Anyone who has any information can call us, in complete confidence, on 0300 123 8018.

"Thankfully she will have a chance of a happy life now, as the person who called this into us has decided to keep her. She fell in love with her straightaway."
