Travellers have set up camp on the car park of a business in Branston.

An eyewitness told the Burton Mail that there are a number of caravans pitched up on Second Avenue and police officers appear to have sealed off the entrance. The eyewitness also reported seeing sniffer dogs on the scene.

Only last week travellers were forced to move on after pitching up on the lawns of the Hotel Mercure Burton upon Trent Newton Park, in Newton Road, Newton Solney, after arriving at around 8pm on Wednesday, August 16.

This is the third time this month that travellers have been spotted near Burton.

On Wednesday, August 2, a group of travellers moved on to the car park at Branston Golf and Country Club, Burton Road, Branston.

The group arrived at the site and parked two caravans in the car park, but were told by the club that they were going to issue them with a court order forcing them to move on.

Staff at the venue used a digger to block off the entrance to prevent any other caravans from entering the site and the travellers later blocked the entrance to the car park, stopping anyone from entering or leaving the club's grounds.

Dozens of people were left in their cars for up to 30 minutes as they waited for police to arrive at the scene.
