Two people have admitted illegally driving heavy vehicles over the historic Swarkestone Causeway in cases heard at Southern Derbyshire Magistrates Court.

Maximum weight

Ashish Sharma, 32, of Fairholme Road, Leicester, admitted driving a Scania on Swarkestone Causeway when it exceeded the maximum permitted gross weight, on April 5. The defendant was fined £146 and ordered to pay £30 court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Swarkestone Causeway

Jeremy Wild, 56, of Chantry Road, Disley, Stockport, admitted driving a large goods vehicle on Swarkestone Causeway when it exceeded the maximum permitted gross weight, on March 31. He has been fined £166 and ordered to pay £30 court costs and a £115 victim surcharge.

Driving offences

A man has been caught for a string of driving offences. Laken Archer, 29, of Majestic Place, Swadlincote, used a vehicle in Sandcliffe Road, Midway, on December 7, otherwise in accordance with a licence, without insurance and without an MoT certificate. He has been fined £660 with £85 court costs and a £66 victim surcharge. He was banned from driving for six months due to repeat offending.

Causing a nuisance

A man has admitted breaching an order. Glen Murray, 23, of St John's Drive, Newhall, admitted using a Ford Puma in New Road, Swadlincote, on January 14, otherwise in accordance with a licence and without insurance. He also admitted failing to comply with a community protection notice in that he drove a vehicle on a road, causing a nuisance and without a licence and insurance. He has been fined £160 with £85 court costs and a £30 victim surcharge. He was banned from driving for six months due to repeat offending.
