Tributes have been paid to a "kind and generous man" who was found dead from a head injury at his home in Stretton.

The team at the YMCA Burton has expressed their sadness following the death of Francis Lovelock, who was known as Frank, as he used to volunteer at the charity.

The 64-year-old was found dead at a house in Main Street and a post-mortem examination revealed the cause of his death as a "blunt" head injury.

A spokesman from the YMCA said: "We were deeply shocked and saddened to hear of Frank's death. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this very sad time.

"Frank worked as a retail assistant and handyman at our Burton charity shop for a few months during 2016. He also helped at our foodbank, sorting and packing emergency food. He was a kind and generous man, always supportive of our volunteers, staff and customers. Frank will be deeply missed."

Friends and those who knew Mr Lovelock have also paid tribute to a "true hero".

Sean Killion said: "So, so sad news Frank. You are a true hero. The selfless work you did for the YMCA while you were battling your own demons was truly inspiring. You gave us hope and drive to know that people are more than their demons. RIP my friend - you were and are why we /me do what we do."

Staffordshire Police said that officers were called to Mr Lovelock’s home at 8.15pm on Saturday, July 29, and found his body inside. His death is being treated as suspicious.

The 41-year-old man arrested in connection with the death has been released by police while investigations continue.

A detailed investigation into the circumstances of the death is ongoing, and officers want to hear from anyone with information.

Officers are also continuing to appeal for witnesses to a disturbance which happened five days earlier in Stretton on Tuesday, July 25 at The Green during that late evening. They are investigating whether this is linked.

There remains a police presence in the area and anyone with concerns is encouraged to approach an officer.

Anyone who can help the police with the inquiry is asked to call the force on 101, quoting incident number 771 of July 29. Alternatively they can contact independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
