A Burton clothes store has moved to a new home as it joins forces with another big name in the town.

Pep and Co has moved from its own unit in The Octagon shopping centre into Poundland, which is located in the same centre.

This is because both of the stores are part of the same company, Steinhoff International, which is integrating branches.

Peter Hardingham, centre manager for The Octagon shopping centre, said: “Pep and Co and Poundland are owned by the same company and all of the 50 stores are being integrated where they can with the local Poundland stores.

"From their view it's making cost savings having one unit and Pep and Co will benefit from the drive that Poundland has.

“We do now have a unit to let and signage will be going up in the next few days. There has already been some interest but we cannot reveal from who at this stage until it has been signed.

“It is a popular mall and we expect it to be filled very soon. It is a pity as Pep and Co will lose some of its identity as a retailer on the high street but by integrating it the company can save money.

"Poundland has got a number of larger stores and all 50 will be consolidated where possible all across the UK.”

Poundland’s first store opened in The Octagon shopping centre, in Burton, in December of 1990.
